The Kenyon College nonprofit land trust has changed its name to the Philander Chase Conservancy. The state of Ohio granted the name change in February to the trust that began in 2000 as the Philander Chase Corporation. “The new name really reflects what we are doing. People can now read ‘Philander Chase Conservancy’ and understand our mission at a glance,” said Lisa Schott ’80, managing director of the land trust. Professor of Art Gregory Spaid ’68 will turn his camera eye to trees when he spends May 16-29 in Colorado’s 52,485-acre Mesa Verde National Park. The photographer was one of five artists selected by the National Park Service, celebrating its 100th anniversary, for its artists-in-residence program at Mesa Verde. He will undergo wilderness training and live in a hogan, a one-room historical dwelling. The park is known as the home of the Ancestral Puebloans, who lived at the site from 600 to 1300…

Construction has destroyed more than 80 percent of the Honduran archaeological sites previously excavated by Kenyon anthropology students and faculty — but the records from those sites will live on at Digital Kenyon. Three decades of Kenyon research tracked human activity from 1200 B.C. to A.D. 1532 and resulted in about 250,000 field notes, site maps, photographs and other records from 941 sites.
