Jason Cinti ’16 had a big job this summer: trying to figure out how a promising cancer-fighting drug fresh from Madagascar kills the harmful cells. Kenyon has received a $100,000 planning grant from The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to implement a new first-year seminar that focuses on sense of place and experiential learning. The Office of Campus Safety now includes a bicycle patrol to supplement its vehicle, golf cart and foot patrols. “You can’t beat walking, but this will help us move around more efficiently,” Director of Campus Safety Robert Hooper said. The Ohio Arts Council is kicking off a new exhibit July 27 at the Riffe Gallery in Columbus, Ohio, that will include the work of Professor of Art Gregory Spaid ’68. Edgar L. Doctorow ’52 H’76, better known by the initials E.L., died on July 21, 2015. A resident of New York City and Sag Harbor, New York, the famed writer was 84.  Born in the Bronx, New York, Doctorow was named for Edgar Allan Poe, whom he once called “our greatest bad writer.” He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, where he made his mark not as a mathematics or science prodigy, but as a mainstay of the literary magazine. The death of E.L. Doctorow ’52 H’76, a master of historical fiction, resonated across the country with tributes ringing out in news reports and even from the White House.
