The first-year from Spartanburg, South Carolina, was recognized as a finalist at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for her development of a “sunscreen” for roofs to reduce production of ozone, a pollutant that thrives in hot conditions. After hundreds of hours of restoration, the Kokosing Nature Preserve will be dedicated at a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. The event is open to the public.
