Professor of English David Lynn ’76 P’14, editor of the Kenyon Review, has won the O. Henry Award, one of the nation’s most prestigious awards for short fiction. Twenty authors are chosen for the award each year based on stories published in an American or Canadian periodical and originally written in English. Eric Thornton ’18 will study Arabic in Tangier, Morocco, this summer thanks to a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship. Thornton, of Columbus, Ohio, is one of 560 students in the country to receive the scholarship that aims to expand the number of Americans mastering foreign languages deemed critical to global politics and the economy. Hilary Mantel will receive the 2016 Kenyon Review Award for Literary Achievement, and Andrea Wulf will receive the first James Wright Award for Nature Writing given jointly by the Review and the Nature Conservancy. Sam Geier ’16 notched the clinching point Sunday, May 15, and the Lords marched on to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III men's tennis tournament after defeating the Case Western Reserve University Spartans, 5-2, at Medical Mutual Tennis Center. Workers have removed 220 tons of concrete roof from the former Buckeye Candy building in downtown Mount Vernon in a $6 million effort to restore the warehouse for College and community use. “One hundred years ago, guys were up on that roof topping out the building with pure manpower, without modern equipment.
