New York Times op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd will visit Kenyon to discuss the 2016 presidential election Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Rosse Hall. The event will be livestreamed. A 2002 work by internationally acclaimed British sculptor Antony Gormley will be installed at Rosse Hall during October break. “Pore” is a cast-iron life-sized figure that will be attached to the north side of Rosse. A recent gift from the estate of Robert P. Hubbard ’53 is one of the largest bequests Kenyon has received in its history. The first payment of what could ultimately be a $12 million bequest just brought $4.8 million to the College, said Associate Vice President for Planned Giving Kyle Henderson ’80. Hubbard’s gift will be directed toward scholarships and could fund as many as a dozen annually. He asked that preference be given to students from New Hampshire and students studying the fine arts. Last year, Anushka Patel ’20 was a world champion; now she’s one of 487 students in Kenyon’s Class of 2020. Patel, of Mercer Island, Washington, was a member of Seattle-based Hot Dog USA, which brought home the team title in the 2015 World Jump Rope Championships in Paris. Kenyon has been named a top contributor of corps members to Teach For America, a nationwide nonprofit that recruits individuals to teach in schools of low-income communities for two or more years.
