The class of 2014 exceeded expectations, smashing the record for participation in years past. Bettye York, a member of the Kenyon community since 1961, has died at the age of eighty-six.  The College was just recently notified of her death, which occurred on April 29, 2014, in New London, Connecticut, where she had lived in a facility for dementia sufferers in recent years. Ranked second among all NCAA Division III institutions for most Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, Kenyon expanded its list to 65 with the addition of three student-athletes. Swimmers Andrew Chevalier ’14 and Sydnee Lindblom ’14 and basketball guard Maureen Hirt ’14 were among 58 winter sports recipients selected from a pool that spanned all three NCAA divisions. Joseph L. Klesner takes the reins of the academic division as provost, moving up from the role of interim provost after less than a year, President Sean Decatur announced today. Klesner, professor of political science, was named interim provost after the departure of Provost Nayef H. Samhat, who left Kenyon to become president of Wofford College on July 1, 2013. Seven members of the Kenyon faculty were awarded tenure, or appointment without limit, by action of the Kenyon College Board of Trustees on April 26.
