Registration opens for Kokosing River 5K/10K Run

GAMBIER, Ohio — Before the cool autumn air descends on Knox County, participate in a nature run along the Kokosing River on Saturday, Oct. 19. The 5K/10K races will start at 9:30 a.m. and follow a course around the southern trail system at Kenyon College’s Brown Family Environmental Center, 9781 Laymon Road.

David Heithaus, director of green initiatives at Kenyon, noted that the race is organized to help people engage with nature, in keeping with the office’s “healthy lifestyles, healthy planet” mission. The route begins flat and fast along the river and climbs up to the pines before coming back down through the prairie.

Online registration is available at racepenguin.com/events/kokosingriverrun until Oct. 14. Although advance registration is preferred, race-day registration will be available starting at 8 a.m. The participation fee is $15 for the 5K and $25 for the 10K. Kenyon students can register for the race for free. Proceeds will go in part to Central Ohio Diabetes Association. Participants who register two weeks in advance will receive a race shirt.
