Release: Aug. 13, 2019
GAMBIER, Ohio — Gently used furniture, clothing, home decor and more will be available for purchase at the annual Kenyon College Rummage Sale, held Thursday, Aug. 29, and Friday, Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gambier Community Center, 115 Meadow Lane.
Items at the sale were donated by Kenyon students and community members last spring and have been carefully selected and sorted by sale staff. Clothing items are high-quality and range from slightly worn to brand-new, with tags.
Cash and check are accepted at the sale. From 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, the operation will turn into a bag sale, where a bag of items will cost $5.
Sale staff will continue to accept donations each weekday from Thursday, Aug. 15, through Friday, Aug. 23. Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gambier Community Center, where staff will be on hand to assist with unloading. Staff also have a limited ability to pick up larger items from nearby locations; pickup requests can be made to Kíra Lancz at lancz1@kenyon.edu. The sale accepts donations of furniture, electronics, gently used household items, decorations, clothes, bikes and office supplies. It does not accept food, books, broken/damaged items and personal hygiene products.
Operations of the nearly 80-year-old sale were turned over to Kenyon College by Harcourt Parish last year due to the sale’s overwhelming popularity and size. The sale helps Kenyon further its efforts to educate the community about sustainability and to work toward achieving carbon neutrality; buying used goods is more environmentally friendly than purchasing goods new.
