GAMBIER, Ohio — Shigeko Sasamori, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, will speak at Kenyon College on Thursday, April 11, at 11:10 a.m. in the Gund Gallery’s Community Foundation Theater, 101 ½ College Drive.
In her address, titled “August 6th, 1945: My Story,” Sasamori will share her account of her life after the bombing, which occurred when she was a teenager. Sasamori was just two miles away from the bombing’s hypocenter and survived, but sustained extensive burns. Years after the bombing, she became part of the “Hiroshima Maidens,” a group of 25 young women who traveled to the U.S. for reconstructive surgery.
This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Kenyon’s Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Ohio Five Mellon Language Grant. For more information, call 740-427-5656.
