GAMBIER, Ohio — Dr. Namita Sharma, a pediatrician with Doctors Without Borders, will discuss her time with the organization in a public talk Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 11:10 a.m. in Kenyon College’s Higley Hall Auditorium, 202 N. College Road.
During her most recent service with Doctors Without Borders, Sharma provided pediatric and neonatal care for displaced people in Gedeb, Ethiopia. In this area, nearly one million people have been displaced internally following ethnic violence. Many people have been forced to leave their homes and now exist in camps, where they suffer malnutrition, lack of water and infectious diseases. Doctors Without Borders is one of the few sources of medical care for this region.
Doctors Without Borders is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that provides assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from health care. Founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of doctors and journalists, Doctors Without Borders is now a worldwide movement of more than 67,000 people.
Sharma is a pediatric hospitalist and emergency department physician at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan. She received her medical degree from St. George’s University, her master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan, and her bachelor of science in psychology at Michigan State University.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Kenyon College Department of Biology at 740-427-5383.
