How do I submit an internship posting?
If you are new to the program, please contact Kenyon’s Career Development Office (CDO) at cdo@kenyon.edu to request the Community Internship Program listing form. (Past Community Internship Program partners will be emailed the form by the CDO at least one month prior to the August 1 due date.)
Am I guaranteed an intern if I submit an internship description?
Though the CDO will promote your position, we are unable to guarantee that a student will have the availability, interests, or requirements that match your needs.
What will I receive in a student’s application packet?
For each applicant, you will receive a resume and cover letter. (Please note that when students apply to the Community Internship Program they are instructed to list in their cover letter up to 3 organizations where they are interested in interning. Students apply directly to Kenyon’s CDO, and the CDO will distribute a packet to each community partner that includes all the relevant candidate applications.)
Do I have to interview students?
We encourage a phone or in-person interview to determine fit and to give students practice with interviews.
Does my intern need to be paid?
We do not require nonprofit community partners to provide paid internships. However, we encourage partners to pay students if funds are available. Paid positions will likely increase the applicant pool.
Can my organization apply for funding to cover an intern stipend?
Thanks to the generous support of donors, Kenyon has limited funds to cover semester-long student stipends at a handful of nonprofits each semester. Organizations may apply for fall stipend consideration when filling out the position listing form by the August 1 deadline. Please note, that a detailed position description is required and stipends are awarded on semester-by-semester basis. If you plan to apply for stipend consideration, we encourage you to email the CDO prior to August 1 to get preliminary feedback on your job description before submitting your official request.
When will my organization know if our stipend funding request has been awarded?
Applications for funding will be reviewed by committee, and organizations will be notified of funding decisions no later than August 12. Position descriptions advertised to students will reflect stipend site awardees.
Can an intern stay on for future semesters?
If the student has a continuing interest and is available, community partners can choose to extend an internship into the next semester. (If a stipend was awarded for one semester, it is not guaranteed in the next, and the community partner will need to reapply in the late fall for spring stipend consideration.)
