Although many television viewers have seen fictionalized torture on television programs like "24," most are unaware that there are torture survivors right in our midst: the are among the refugees and political asylees who have found safe harbor in the U.S. they are now struggling to make new lives for themselves, while healing their deep physical and psychological wounds. Estimates place the number of torture survivors living in the U.S. at over 500,000. This event is co-sponsored by Gund Gallery & the Center for the Study of American Democracy.

Martha Raddatz (P'15) was named Senior Foreign Affairs correspondent for ABC News in November 2008, after serving as White House correspondent during the last term of the George W. Bush administration. Ms. Raddatz has received four Emmy Awards, including an Emmy for covering the inauguration of Barack Obama. Ms. Raddatz is also the author of The Long Road Home: a Story of War and Family.

Kenyon's Constitution Day speaker this year will be Zack Space, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007-11. Mr. Space represented Ohio's 18th district, which includes Gambier. Mr. Space graduated from Kenyon College in 1983.
