This application is to request academic support funds to cover the cost of books, music lessons, course materials, and/or other related educational expenses. In order to assist as many students as possible, this support is capped at $300 per semester per student.
In order to qualify for such funds, students will need to: 1) be exceeding the estimated cost of books and course materials for the particular semester for which they are requesting funds and 2) have consulted with the Financial Aid Office and exhausted all of their loan options for the particular semester. To find out if you are eligible for the Academic Support Funds, follow these steps:
For textbook requests, either a letter will be given to students to be presented at the bookstore upon check out or a more cost effective option will be purchased via a retailer. For music lessons requests, your name will be submitted to the Music Department. (Music lessons, regardless of credit hours, will only be granted to students who have not previously requested funds for this reason and who have exhausted all of their financial aid options.)
Students will need to submit a new application for each semester for which they are requesting Academic Support Funds. Any changes in personal and/or family circumstances should be reported to the Office of Financial Aid, even mid-semester or mid-year, to determine whether their financial aid package can be adjusted.
Please also note that first-year, international students are not eligible for this fund, given current visa regulations; more information on these regulations is available from the Center for Global Engagement.
To encourage social distancing and to ensure the health of our community, meetings for academic support funds will be held virtually. Additionally, hard copies of letters will not be provided for the upcoming term; rather, approved students will need to do the following: 1) place your textbook order via the Kenyon Bookstore website, 2) provide your K-Card information under the “payment method” section of the checkout process, and 3) indicate the amount that the ODEI will be paying under the “order comments” section of the checkout process (i.e. “the ODEI will be paying for this textbook order”).
If you have been accepted to a graduate program, or have secured a job interview and cannot afford travel expenses, you may apply to the Student Support Fund. In order to assist as many students as possible, this support is capped at one graduate placement exam, up to three graduate application fees of up to $300 total, or up to $300 for approved travel.
For costs related to graduate education, you may request funds for graduate placement exams, such as the MCAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, etc. or graduate school application fees, as long as you have proof of a requested application fee waiver. For graduate school visits, students must have been already accepted and/or invited to the graduate school. Applications for travel costs for job interviews or related travel are also applicable to this fund.

The Kenyon Summer Internship Stipend was established in the spring of 2014 to provide students who qualify for need-based financial aid with the opportunity to accept unpaid internships. The fund will be used to assist a small number of students with necessary living expenses to complete an internship.
Available to enrolled students with need-based financial aid, this fund helps cover costs associated with food, travel, lodging, and professional attire necessary to successfully to complete the internship. After completing the internship, all recipients of the internship stipend are required to complete a reflection project to be shared with the campus community. Examples may include posters, PowerPoints, digital stories, etc.
Because of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the SISF Committee will not support any on-site domestic or international internships this summer. We recognize that many of you have invested valuable time and energy in researching and securing on-site summer internships, but to be consistent with other College policies related to summer programs and employment, we believe this is the most responsible course of action to take at this time.
The SISF Committee will support remote domestic or international internships that are approved by employers. To be considered for funding for a remote internship, please submit the following items as a part of your application package:
We apologize for not being able to fund on-site summer internships this summer, but we sincerely hope that you will be able to secure a meaningful and high impact remote opportunity. Please submit the requested information by May 1. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at summerinternshipstipendfund@kenyon.edu.
If you are an international student interested in applying for funds, please contact a member of Center for Global Engagement staff to discuss work authorization.
Applicants are encouraged to pursue internships outside of their home countries, however, Kenyon does not support, fund, or sponsor student internships in countries that are on the Travel Advisory List levels 3 and 4 or the OFAC Sanctions list. It is the responsibility of the applicant to review travel warnings and OFAC sanctions prior to applying for an internship outside of the United States. Funding may be rescinded if a country is placed on either of these lists after the application has been approved.
Beginning January 20, students may apply through the student employment website, Handshake. Search under internships for the application.
Priority Deadline: April 10
Final Deadline: May 1
Extended Deadline: May 31
Only complete applications with all four required documents will be considered. This is a competitive application and quality of application materials will also be taken into consideration.
