The Office of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion serves as a resource to students, staff, faculty and community members alike. Our office oversees several groups whose missions include creating a more diverse, open, inclusive, accepting, equitable and affirming campus environment. The organizations that have a direct reporting line to the ODEI are below.
Composed of faculty members, administrators, and students, the Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) meets throughout the academic year to assess the state of diversity at Kenyon. Underlying the council’s work is a commitment to fostering a campus environment where all individuals, whatever their origin or intended destination, can pursue personal and intellectual goals. Find out more about the DAC.
Throughout the year, the ODEI regularly collaborates with diverse student organizations on cultural, awareness, and celebratory month/events that the office oversees, such as Latinx Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, Indigenous Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and more. These groups help to fill the programming roster with performances, lectures, dinners, discussions, festivals and more.
The ODEI also oversees three distinct, program houses across campus: the Snowden Multicultural Center, the Crozier Center for Women and Unity House. Each of these program houses help to support residential learning experiences, while also providing additional opportunities for student leaders to help shape the programming implemented by the ODEI. Find out more about the ODEI program houses.
The ODEI also regularly communicates with Student Accessibility Support Services (SASS) and various campus partners to help ensure that our campus equitably supports the needs of students with disabilities across campus. SASS coordinates the provision of academic accommodations for students with disabilities. All accommodations are individualized, confidential and based upon both the nature of the disability and the demands of the academic environment.
