Cultural Connections Visit Programs

The 2019 Cultural Connections overnight programs will take place September 21-23 and October 26-28. These programs will merge into our Fall Visit Programs on each of the Sundays and go through Monday. For more information, please call 800-848-2468 or email admissions@kenyon.edu.

Saturday

2 - 4 p.m.

Registration. After being welcomed to campus, you’ll have the opportunity to chat with members of a variety of Kenyon student organizations, as well as Admissions staff. Ransom Hall

4 - 5 p.m.

Mock Class. Hewlet McFarlane, professor of neuroscience, will offer a mock class for the group. Cheever Room, Finn House

5 - 5:30 p.m.

Meet Your Host. You will be paired with your Kenyon student host; please drop your luggage in your host’s room and head to dinner in the Alumni Dining Room for a catered buffet (lower level Peirce). Ransom Hall

5:45 - 7 p.m.

Dinner and Welcome. Kenyon President Sean Decatur will welcome you to campus. Alumni Dining Room, Peirce Hall

7 - 8 p.m.

8:15 - 10 p.m.

Hestival. An event focused on showcasing the spoken word talents of Kenyon students. Peirce Pub

Trivia Night. This is an opportunity to learn fun facts about Kenyon and pop culture while competing to win prizes! Peirce Pub

Brunch and KEEP/STEM Panel. The Kenyon Educational Enrichment Program (KEEP) and the STEM Scholars Program are built to empower students to seize challenges, persist, advocate and succeed. Faculty and staff will introduce you to the community-based learning and support opportunities available in each program, and current students will share their own experiences. Alumni Dining Room

12 - 2 p.m.

Men Of Color (MOC) and Sisterhood (an organization for femme-identifying people of color) Meet & Greet. Meet members of these affinity groups and learn about their experiences as students of color within the Kenyon community. Gund Game Room, Gund Commons

2 - 3 p.m.

Health and Wellness in College. Chris Smith, director of the Cox Health and Counseling Center, will discuss how to live a healthy lifestyle while in college and introduce prospective students to Kenyon's "Eat Well, Sleep Well, Be Well" Initiative. They will be addressing issues that college students around the country are facing and the resources available at Kenyon to help cope with some of these issues. Cox Health and Counseling Center 129

Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Presentation. Jacky Neri Arias, associate director of ODEI, will share information about the resources available to current students who are first generation and/or from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Allen House

Host Reuniting and Dinner. Prospective students will meet back up with their Kenyon student host in Gund Commons, Gund Ballroom, followed by dinner in Peirce Hall.

7 - 8:30 p.m.

Kenyon Meet and Greets. Drop by a variety of meet and greet programs run by current Kenyon students to get your questions about study abroad, athletics, publications, and much more answered. Please see folder insert for locations.

8:30 - 10 p.m.

First-year Fall Festival, Bonfire and S’mores. Reunite with your first-year host for a fun get-together with Kenyon first-year students and prospective students.

Monday

Please bring your luggage to Peirce Lounge Monday morning before going to breakfast and classes. Make a plan to meet up with any visiting family members at the end of your day or be in admissions on time for your departing shuttle to the airport.

• Science Tour. Explore the Science Quad where you will see classrooms, labs and perhaps some research in progress. Depart from Ransom Hall
• English and Creative Writing Tour. Learn about writing at Kenyon from the English major to the Kenyon Review. Depart from Ransom Hall
• Fine Arts Tour. Explore Kenyon’s performance and studio art spaces and learn about opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. Depart from Ransom Hall
• Kenyon Athletic Center (KAC) Tour. Tour one of the best athletic facilities of any college in the country, according to the Princeton Review. Please note: the return walk from the KAC is uphill and can be semi-strenuous for some. Depart from Ransom Hall

10:10 - 11 a.m.

Applying to Kenyon and Financing Your College Education. Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Diane Anci and Director of Financial Aid Craig Slaughter will discuss the application process and financing a college education. • Kenyon Review. Building on a tradition of excellence dating back to 1939, the Kenyon Review has evolved from a distinguished literary magazine to a pre-eminent arts organization that offers students the opportunity to serve as interns and associates. Finn House
