Open Housing, also sometimes called gender inclusive or non-conforming housing, is a practice that allows Kenyon students to live with any student(s) regardless of gender identity.
All apartments, houses, and suites will be considered open rooms (Aclands, Caples, Duff, Farr Apartments, Kenyon Farm, Hillel, Market Apartments, Morgan Apartments, New Apartments, North Campus Apartments, Snowden, Tafts, Unity, Wilsons), with the exception of Crozier (all women) and Delt Lodge (all men).
All residence halls will be considered open rooms, with the exception of the following gender specific buildings: Bushnell (all women), Manning (men or women by wing), Watson (men or women by floor), as well as the First Year areas (Gund, Lewis, Norton).
Kenyon believes it is important that housing practices evolve to meet the needs of students to create an inclusive, welcoming environment. Open Housing has been available since the 2012-2013 academic year. According to Campus Pride, Kenyon College is one of 265 schools nationwide, and one of 15 Ohio schools that provide open housing options for students.
The College also offers gender specific housing, and that option will remain available. There are multiple residence halls where gender specific housing will be available for students who prefer that option. Open Housing will not be implemented in those locations.
Students may request room changes by visiting the Office of Residential Life. The student will not be required to move into another Open Housing room unless they wish.
