The Office of Academic Advising strives to engage students in taking ownership of and responsibility for their academic experience at Kenyon. The staff collaborates with faculty members and advisors to help students achieve academic and collegiate success. The dean is accessible for one-on-one student appointments and student group meetings during the academic year.
The Career Development Office (CDO) helps students discover work-engaged learning opportunities like internships and job shadows, find on-campus employment, and prepare for careers and graduate school. First-year students through seniors are encouraged to take full advantage of the CDO’s one-on-one advising sessions and group programming for assistance with everything from job search fundamentals to exploring how academic and personal interests align with professional opportunities. The office also helps students build professional networks by connecting them with alumni and parents in their fields of interest.
The Dean of Students Office, under the direction of the vice president of student affairs, supports students in addressing their questions and concerns related to student rights and responsibilities, health and counseling, and leaves of absence. Additionally, students may consult confidentially with the ombudsperson, a neutral conflict resolution professional, about whatever is troubling them.
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) strives to enhance the academic achievement and personal development of underrepresented students, faculty and staff at Kenyon. Academic success and leadership programs include the Kenyon Educational Enrichment Program (KEEP) and Recognizing Each Other’s Ability to Conquer the Hill (REACH). Two student-supervised centers, Snowden Multicultural Center and Unity House, help provide students with a cultural support system on campus. The office also leads campus programming about various cultures and social justice issues.
The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) oversees the off-campus study program and provides support to international students and scholars.
The Cox Health and Counseling Center helps students make full use of their physical, mental and emotional capabilities and provides medical, rehabilitative and counseling services. All medical and counseling records are confidential. Kenyon’s counseling service provides individual, group and relationship counseling for students who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional or mental health (depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment issues, relationship problems, eating disorders, substance abuse, etc.).
The spacious, welcoming and architecturally stunning Kenyon Athletic Center is one of the most exciting athletic centers of any small college in the country. First-rate facilities and equipment are available for all students to use. Kenyon sponsors 22 varsity sports in addition to club sports and intramural sports, physical education classes and group fitness classes. A number of academic courses are taught in the center’s conference rooms, and the building features several quiet spaces for individual or group study.
The Office of Residential Life assists students with all of their needs related to living on campus. The staff members and student community advisors help students learn to live with a roommate, provide social and educational events, seek to ensure a healthy and stimulating learning environment outside the classroom,
and address maintenance and safety concerns. As residents, students obtain experience in using good judgment, making difficult decisions and communicating with diverse groups of people.
The Office of Spiritual and Religious Life provides students with many opportunities to develop their spiritual lives at Kenyon. Activities supporting a diversity of faiths range from formal religious services, to clubs, to humanitarian interest groups. Staff members also host a weekly “Chat with the Chaplains.”
The Office of Student Accessibility and Support Services (SASS) promotes facility and program access for students, adaptive technology software, alternative formats for curricular materials, resources for faculty, consultation on principles of universal design, and information about and referral to campus and community resources. SASS also provides tutoring assistance in conjunction with the Math and Skills Center and the Writing Center.
The Office of Student Engagement fosters the development of critical thinkers, ethical leaders and engaged citizens through programs, services and educational opportunities. The office works with more than 130 student organizations, coordinates traditional campus events and hosts leadership development opportunities.
Kenyon has specific expectations for appropriate student behavior within the campus community. Any behavior which seriously affects the academic performance of the student or of fellow students, offends the sensibility of others, or causes damage to property will result in a formal response from a staff member
in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Students found responsible for violating College policy will be issued educationally based sanctions.
