Twelve student musicians have been invited to perform at the Angela Waite Recital, held Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in Brandi Recital Hall.
The concert features students, both music majors and non-music majors, who gave outstanding performances during their music juries in December. The students were selected to perform in the concert by Department of Music faculty.
“One of the strengths of Kenyon’s music program is that a student does not have to be a music major to fully engage in performances, either solo or ensemble,” said Professor of Music Ben Locke, who oversees the recital. “Those students who study privately often do exemplary work, but unless those students choose to do a public recital, no one but a couple of teachers will know of it.”
“The generosity of the Waite family a few years ago gave the Music Department the vehicle by which we can feature our students’ accomplishments to the community,” Locke added. “It is an honor to be invited, and the Angela Waite Recital has become a popular and well-attended event due to the high level of musicality exhibited in the performances.”
Students invited to perform include E. Chandler Davis ’17, voice, from Laguna Beach, California; Aaron Fenhagen ’17, guitar, from Montclair, New Jersey; Kayleigh Loveland ’17, voice, from Mount Vernon, Ohio; Lily Ann McBride ’17, harp, from Gambier; Grace Potter ’17, voice, from Midland, Michigan; Jacob Scharfetter ’17, voice, from Chillicothe, Ohio; Zoe Tatarsky ’17, guitar, from Fairfax, California; Weston Carpenter ’19, jazz piano, from Lafayette, California; Joey Chimes ’19, piano, from Stamford, Connecticut; Patrick Shaw ’19, guitar, from Pottstown, Pennsylvania; Anna Tancredi ’19, classical guitar, from Hingham, Massachusetts; and Leah Dunbar ’20, marimba, from Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
The biannual Angela Waite Recital Series was created in 2000 by Charles P. Waite H’97 P’77 ’81, a Kenyon emeritus trustee, who made a donation in his wife’s name as an anniversary gift. The concert is free and open to the public.
