Kenyon honors the memory and celebrates the life of Andrew D. Pochter ’15 on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Great Hall in Peirce Hall.
Andrew of Chevy Chase, Maryland, was killed in June during mob violence in Alexandria, Egypt, where he was participating in a summer program that involved teaching English to Egyptian youths. His family, mentors, and friends described him as a fun-loving, active student of the world with a facility for foreign languages. Andrew was a co-manager of Hillel House, a member of the Middle East Student Association, and a rugby player.
The inter-religious memorial service will include tributes and reflections in words and music from Andrew’s friends, fellow students, and brothers in Alpha Delta Phi. His family will join the Kenyon community for the memorial service. Kenyon President Sean M. Decatur will open the ceremony with welcoming remarks.
The Pochter family and friends have established the Andrew Driscoll Pochter '15 Memorial International Studies Fund at Kenyon to provide support for students who, like Andrew, plan to study and promote international understanding through a summer internship or undergraduate study experience abroad in Middle Eastern nations.
