Students and their teachers will showcase their mastery of modern movement this week in the Department of Dance and Drama Fall Dance Concert in the Hill Theater.
The concert provides the choreographers an opportunity for freedom of expression, according to Associate Professor of Dance Julie Brodie. “Each choreographer is exploring individual concepts, but all are in the modern dance style,” she said.
Students who choreographed pieces for the concert include: Sandro Aravena ’14 of Santiago, Chile; Eden Deering ’14 of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Bailey Johns ’14 of Elk Point, S.D.; Colin McArthur ’15 of Boca Raton, Fla.; and Rebecca Varnell ’15 of Clemmons, N.C.
The concert also features three faculty-arranged pieces, with choreography by Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance Ellie Escosa Carter and Assistant Professor of Dance Kora Radella and a set piece originally choreographed by the renowned choreographer and dancer Charles Weidman and staged by Brodie.
Performances will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Dec. 12-14, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $2 and are available at the Bolton Theater Box Office (740-427–5546). The box office is open Monday through Saturday from 1-5 p.m. To learn more about the concert, call 740-427-5531.
