The Kenyon College men's soccer team will head to Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday and take on Maryville (TN) College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two institutions.
Coach Chris Brown's team heads into NCAA play with a 17-2 record, a nine-match winning streak and victors of their third-straight North Coast Athletic Conference tournament title last weekend. It is also the fourth consecutive season Kenyon has made the national tournament.
Kenyon's opponent, Maryville, comes into the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005. This season, the Scots posted an 18-2 mark, including a current 14-game winning streak, and were winners of the USA South Athletic Conference for the first time since joining that league in 2012.
These two teams do have one common opponent this season: Centre College. The Scots rolled to a 6-1 win against the Colonels, while the Lords earned a 1-0 win.
The winner of Saturday's match, which will begin at 3:30 p.m., will advance to play either host Lynchburg College or John Carroll University on Sunday. That second-round game Sunday is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
