While today is the official national Poem in Your Pocket Day, at Kenyon we got things started earlier in the week.
On Tuesday at dawn, Kenyon Review's team of “Ninja” poets stalked the campus to post poems from railings, porch pillars, in the library, and on clotheslines along Middle Path.
Signs read “free poems to available pocket” encouraging all to take a poem and button. Poems were shared in classrooms, hallways, and the dining hall.
Kenyon College’s bookstore offered a 20% discount on all poetry books in exchange for each poem read aloud there.
Pancakes flew through the air at a brunch to celebrate the work of our Kenyon Review Associates, and all had poems in their pockets.
Each year we bring a special guest to headline our Poem in Your Pocket day events. This year award-winning poet Martha Collins gave a talk at 11:10 am and read her poetry at 5pm in the Cheever Room at Finn House.
From sunrise to sunset, poetry was in the air on Poem in Your Pocket day at Kenyon!
