Rep. TJ Cox P’19 will speak at Kenyon on Monday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gund Gallery’s Community Foundation Theater. His event, titled “Building a New House in Congress,” is free and open to the public.
Cox was elected to represent California’s 21st District in November 2018. He joined a wave of new legislators in flipping political control of the House to the Democratic Party. In this event at Kenyon, Cox will join Professor of Political Science David Rowe, director of Kenyon’s Center for the Study of American Democracy, in conversation about the current political landscape in Congress and his experience as a new legislator. A public Q&A will follow.
“Our nation’s Founders considered the House of Representatives to be the people’s voice in government. A conversation with Congressman Cox will help us better understand the new House majority in the wake of the 2018 elections and its vision for our common future as members of America’s democracy,” Rowe said.
Prior to his election to Congress, Cox worked as an engineer. He also started the Central Valley NMTC Fund and is the owner of two nut-processing businesses. Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.
