The Brown Family Environmental Center (BFEC) celebrates the turning of the seasons with its Fall Harvest Festival, held Saturday, Oct. 20, from 12-4 p.m. It’s a highlight of Kenyon’s Family Weekend, which welcomes 1,000 family members to campus to participate in an array of activities.
Horse-drawn hayrides, farm animals, food trucks, apple cider and a campfire await Harvest Festival attendees at the 500-acre nature preserve. Interactive children’s events include a chronophotography exhibit hosted by the Mount Vernon-based Science Play-space Initiative. Ohio State University Extension Master Gardeners also will be on hand to help attendees decorate pumpkins.
Live, fall-themed performances from folk and country bands Goslee Reed and Kean, The Handsome Devils, and Citrus Orchards will accompany the autumn colors. Photographs from the 21st annual Knox County Nature Photography Contest will be on display at the festival, and attendees will be invited to vote on their favorite submissions until 2 p.m.
“We’ll have lots of fun, entertaining activities related to fall to get visitors in the spirit of the season,” said Maddie Morgan ’18, post-baccalaureate fellow at the BFEC. “It’s a time to come and relax, eat good food, listen to good music, and see different community members and their products. It’s a nice way to spend a Saturday.”
Other Family Weekend activities include sporting events, a summer research poster session, a Kokosingers concert, a theater production of “The Wolves,” a 5K run, a Gund Gallery event, and an insider’s look at Our Path Forward, Kenyon’s newly launched comprehensive fundraising campaign.
