Mark Ellis takes the reins as director of public affairs after serving as the interim director since April, announced Heidi Hansen McCrory, vice president of advancement.
“We are so excited to officially name Mark to this position,” McCrory said. “His leadership as the interim director, along with his deep understanding and appreciation of Kenyon, made his appointment an easy decision. He is trusted and respected by the faculty and staff as well as by the media. His professional integrity is an important asset for us.”
Ellis came to Kenyon as news director in 2007 after a successful career in journalism primarily with the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch where he worked as city editor, assistant metro editor and senior reporter. He supervised breaking-news coverage and investigative projects that won several Associated Press of Ohio awards.
Since arriving at Kenyon, Ellis has worked as the liaison between the College and the news media, promoting the College and facilitating media access to administrators, faculty, and students. In addition, he has written and edited stories for many College publications, including the award-winning Alumni Bulletin magazine, and the College website.
“I have great confidence in our Public Affairs professionals, and I very much welcome the opportunity to serve the community,” Ellis said. “Kenyon is well positioned to take on the challenges facing higher education. Our message is that our dynamic leadership, elite faculty, highly skilled administration and staff, and top-notch trades and custodial people add up to an extraordinary experience in higher education for our students.”
