Earning Tenure

Three members of the Kenyon faculty were awarded tenure, or appointment without limit, by action of the Kenyon College Board of Trustees during its meeting in Gambier on April 29. These faculty members are promoted to associate professor, effective July 1:

Daniel E. Hartnett, assistant professor of Spanish

B.A. Wabash College, M.A. University of Virginia, Ph.D. University of Virginia 
Daniel Hartnett joined the College in 2009. His doctorate dissertation focused on the political and social uses of Dante in 15th-century Iberia. He has lived and studied in Spain and Portugal. He is devoted to extending faculty-student collaboration to the humanities at Kenyon. Hartnett has served on the Summer Scholars Program Committee; is serving a four-year term as project director for a language enrichment program for postdoctoral fellows; and has worked as one of Kenyon’s Fulbright Program advisors, aiding many Kenyon students and graduates in getting Fulbright grants.

Jon Sherman, assistant professor of film

Jon Sherman came to Kenyon in 2010. He directed Breathing Room starring Edie Falco in 1996, and his 2002 film I’m With Lucy featured Julie Christie, Monica Potter and Harold Ramis and was released in more than 50 countries. He has led the Kenyon-Rome program and teaches classes on topics such as screenwriting, documentary filmmaking and the films of Joel and Ethan Coen.

Benjamin Viccellio '98, assistant professor of drama

Prior to returning to Kenyon in 2009, Ben Viccellio worked as a playwright and actor in Chicago. He wrote several plays that have been produced in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York and authored screenplays including Men in Trouble, based on the novel of the same name. He has been associate artistic director of the Kenyon Institute’s Kenyon Playwrights Conference and teaches courses such as "The Horror Film" and "Playing Chekhov."
