Let me start by saying there are a lot of big things I love about Kenyon – Middle Path, performing with the Owl Creeks, Poem in Your Pocket Day. Those are all fairly big, and well-known, and probably covered in most of the admissions packets. But one of the lesser known joys in life, at least in my opinion, is the Peirce Nap.
Hey, Maddy, what is “Peirce Nap”?
Peirce Nap is when you’ve just finished a thoroughly enlightening class on, say, the gender ratio in contemporary politics, and it’s 4 p.m., and you’re like “Oh man, I could really go for some coffee and a snack because that rapid-fire round-table discussion was exhilarating and I am positively famished.”
So you venture into Peirce, which is 4 p.m. is oddly serene (and still open), and you start to feel the effects of a passionate, 80-minute talk/yell about Hilary Clinton 2016. And you realize that while you love your New Campus Apartment, it has also become, in this dramatically drowsy moment, impossibly far away. O, what do to, what to do?
Solution: drag yourself downstairs to the giant leather chairs, cuddle up to your geology textbook, and drift off.
Things I like about Peirce Naps: I never have to worry about my things getting stolen, or being abducted, or being roused from my slumber. The biggest danger is a friend snapping a picture of me drooling and posting it on Facebook (which, granted, thoroughly wounds my ego, but nonetheless leaves me physically unscathed). And the best thing? Waking up 40 minutes later, refreshed, and suddenly it’s 5 p.m., and it’s dinner, and you get the first pick of Spatchcock Chicken, and then all your friends arrive a boisterous hub, and you’re like, “Yay I go to college, thanks Peirce Nap!”
