Zach came from Erie, Pennsylvania, to Kenyon in 2015 and quickly joined the College Township Fire Department, Club Soccer and Kenyon Knitting Club and took up guitar lessons. The financial aid that he received to attend Kenyon was critical to his college choice.
Caroline, a physics major from Avon Lake, Ohio, likes the quiet of lunches in the Peirce Pub and the holiday meals at Peirce. She plays baritone in the Symphonic Winds Ensemble, works at the library and likes the trips she has taken with the Physics Department. “Financial aid is an integral part of me continuing my studies," she says.
Nicholas, a political science major from Toledo, Ohio, takes pride in his close ties with his football teammates and his friendship with his Beta Theta Pi brothers.
Brandon is a Kenyon football player from Solon, Ohio, and a biology major with a concentration in environmental studies. He chose to come to Kenyon "because I believe this is the best place for me to advance myself academically as well as set a great foundation for postgraduate life.”
Emily, a Libertyville, Illinois, native who is majoring in English with a creative writing emphasis, works at the Kenyon Review and relishes her memory of meeting John Green 00'. Thanks to financial aid, Emily says, “I’m able to go on the Kenyon-Exeter program... Coming from a family with five kids, that wouldn’t be possible without financial aid, and I cannot thank Kenyon enough for giving me this opportunity.”
Funmilayo, from Newark, New Jersey, followed her older brother to Kenyon with the help of financial aid. In addition to physics classes, track practices and student council meetings, she enjoys visits to the Miller Observatory.
Kate came to Kenyon from Medina, Ohio, and found her niche at the Brown Family Environmental Center. Kate’s interests reach many other corners of campus: she is minoring in Chinese, plays violin in the Knox County Symphony Orchestra, volunteers at Wiggin Street Elementary School and enjoys painting.
Han came from Yangon, Myanmar, to Kenyon for its strong academic programs, supportive community, small classes and generous financial aid. “Without it, I would not able to experience all the amazing things I have had throughout these years, and I am forever grateful for that,” says Han, a political science major with an environmental studies concentration.

Annual Funds at Kenyon support $1,389,774 of financial aid and scholarships. Each year, seven talented students, including the Firefighter Scholar, the Newman Rugby Scholar and the Veterans Scholar, are able to attend Kenyon, thanks to the support of alumni and parents who specifically designate their gift to Scholarship and Financial Aid. In addition, two Kenyon students are awarded the Hannah More Scholarship. The Hannah More Scholarship, for students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year institution, is particularly popular among faculty, staff, and administrators. Hundreds of other students receive financial support through other allocations within the Annual Fund, endowed scholarships and the College's operating budget. Kenyon employs 191 faculty members (100 percent of tenured faculty hold terminal degrees in their field). Providing exceptional faculty members for 33 majors and 13 interdisciplinary programs, and keeping a 10:1 student-to-professor ratio, requires strong support from alumni and parents. As one of the founding members of the North Coast Athletic Conference--the first to give equal rights to men's and women’s sports--Kenyon has 11 men’s and 11 women’s varsity sports, as well as 12 club sports. Gifts to the Athletic designation help buy uniforms, equipment, pay for travel to games, and upkeep of athletic facilities Kenyon boasts many strong teams and traditions, and is proud of its accomplished Lords and Ladies.
Kenyon maintains more than 50 buildings on 1,000 acres of beautiful hill-top and surrounding farm land. The Kenyon Fund and Kenyon Parents Fund provide almost $390,000 for maintenance operations and upkeep of one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. In partnership with the Office of Green Initiatives, the College continues to upgrade to energy- efficient lighting, low flow water devices, and hybrid vehicles in the College fleet. All newly constructed buildings are LEED certified, with geo-thermal heating and cooling systems. The College also partners with companies such as EnerNoc and AEP (American Electric Power) to decrease cost through more efficient use of campus power and electricity. Kenyon's composting system, which has become a model for other colleges, diverts 3,500 pounds of waste a week, almost 56 tons a year. Consequently, fertilizer use has decreased dramatically as well. The sustainability effort at Kenyon proudly partners with student groups, like ECO and PEAS, and centers like the Brown Family Environmental Center.
