The Angela Waite Recital Series was Emeritus Trustee Charles P. Waite’s anniversary gift to his wife, Angela, in 2000. The Waites were especially generous to the music department over the years, and this gift was a tribute to Mrs. Waite’s longstanding involvement in and support of the worlds of music and dance. As a member of the College’s Board of Trustees from 1986 to 2002, Waite served as chair of the finance committee, as vice chair of the executive committee, and as a member of the nominating committee. A former member of the College's Parents Advisory Council, Waite received an honorary doctorate of laws from Kenyon in 1997 in recognition of longtime loyalty and careful, caring, and effective stewardship. Also part of the Kenyon family are son Charles P. “Chad” Waite, Jr., Class of 1977, a Kenyon parent with his wife, Susan Butterfield Waite, Class of 1978, parents of Charles P. “CP” Waite III, who graduated in 2006, and Stephen C. Waite, Class of 2010. And Chad’s sister, Catherine Sullivan, graduated from Kenyon in 1981.
The Angela Waite Student Recital Series features the students judged the best performers at the end-of-semester music-department juries. A dozen of the best musicians, regardless of major, are chosen to perform in the Waite recitals, held twice a year.
