Honoring Professor John Elliott

John Elliott, professor of political science, came to Kenyon in 1970 and will retire at the end of the current academic year. His career will be celebrated during Reunion Weekend with a panel discussion, "The Presidency and the Media."

The panel will take place Saturday, May 27, at 3 p.m. in the Bolton Theater. Registration, as part of Reunion Weekend, is encouraged, although not required. Online registration for Reunion Weekend will open the week of March 20.

Biography

John Elliott joined Kenyon's Department of Political Science in 1970 and has taught a variety of courses in American politics. Elliott has recently offered courses in public policy, the presidency, the making of American foreign policy and on the role of the news media in American politics.

Along with faculty members from the Department of Economics, Elliott has often co-taught the capstone course for the public policy concentration, and he has taught courses in twentieth century American political history with a colleague from the Department of History.

Elliott is completing a book entitled "Political Journalism in a Pluralist Democracy" and has published chapters on the subject. He has served as chair of the department, and for three years he served as chair of the College's Resource Allocation and Assessment Committee. For many years he has been co-chair of the Program in Public Policy, which he helped found.
