Alumni College Seminar I: “Grave Matters: An Exploration of Key Western Attitudes about Death and Dying.” Royal Rhodes, Donald L. Rogan Professor of Religious Studies Emeritus, leads this seminar at Kokosing Nature Preserve, Kenyon’s conservation burial ground on Quarry Chapel Road. At the conclusion of the seminar, Lisa Schott and Amy Henricksen from the Philander Chase Conservancy will offer a tour of the preserve and talk about the work of Kenyon’s land trust which is celebrating 20 years of land conservation work in 2020. 10620 Quarry Chapel Road. Parking is available at the preserve, and those who are able are encouraged to drive. If you require transportation, meet in the half-circle driveway beside the Church of the Holy Spirit . The shuttle departs at 10:45 a.m. (Rain site: Kokosing Nature Preserve Reception Center, 10608 Quarry Chapel Road)

Gund Gallery Open House featuring the work of Caroline Del Guidice '15. Caroline Del Guidice is an interdisciplinary multi-media sculptor born in Arlington, Virginia. She received her bachelor's degree from Kenyon in 2015 with a double major in studio art and anthropology. Del Giudice established herself in Detroit in 2015 to pursue a career in art and metal fabrication. Her creative practice exists at the intersection of cultural studies and fabrication (both digital and analog). She will graduate from Cranbrook Academy of Art in May 2020 with an MFA in Sculpture. 1:30-3:30 p.m.
BFEC hike. Join BFEC staff to explore a part of the BFEC’s nine-mile trail system with great views of the Kokosing River valley. We’re celebrating 25 years of conservation and education! Participants may choose from a two-mile or four-mile loop on moderate to hilly terrain. Wear proper footwear & dress for the weather. Meet at the Parish House, 201 West Brooklyn Street.
4 p.m. — NEW THIS YEAR!
Parade of Classes. Kick off the weekend by joining your fellow classmates to relive Opening Convocation with a parade down Middle Path to an all-classes reception. Classes will gather in the Village and walk south while the Kokosingers lead us in song.
5-6 p.m.
Shabbat. Bring in Shabbat together and share in challah, kiddush and a small nosh before going to dinner. Quarry Chapel open house. Quarry Chapel was built in 1863, serving as a parish for stonemasons’ families, and was abandoned in 1937. Saved in 1972, the chapel was restored in 2009 and serves today as a community asset, hosting concerts and weddings. Corner of Quarry Chapel and Monroe Mills roads. Visitors must provide their own transportation.
