Regional associations are critical partners in providing events and programming for alumni to stay connected in their own community. They bring the best of the Kenyon experience to their local community, provide opportunities for alumni to stay engaged with their alma mater – and in many cases, provide programming and support Kenyon’s current generation of students.
The majority of Kenyon’s regional associations are led by a steering committee that varies in the number of members. Typically they meet quarterly but some may choose to have additional meetings and conference calls. Kenyon’s Alumni Council has outlined a template for a potential series of annual events that the regional associations could plan which celebrate Kenyon and bring alumni together with a shared vision. Below are a few examples of the types of events that the regional associations host each year:
- Middle Path Day: a day of community service. Learn more.
- Career Development Event: these events can be planned in partnership with Kenyon’s Career Development Office. Most regions plan their career event at a time when current students are at home (during college breaks or the summer.) Some regions plan a simple networking event, while others hold panel discussions highlighting specific industries or career paths.
- Phebruary Phling: if you attended Kenyon in the 90’s or ‘00s, you’re likely familiar with Philander’s Phebruary Phling. It is simply a party to chase away the February blahs. Some regions make it a semi-formal affair complete with a DJ and photo booth, while others just plan a meet-up at a local bar or restaurant.
- Bell-A-Thon Gathering: Kenyon holds a day of giving known as the Bell-A-Thon. The event is live-streamed from the bell tower and features student performances, faculty talks and other fun features of campus life. Each hour, the bell rings for every gift to the Kenyon Fund. Regional Associations are encouraged to plan a happy hour or gathering and watch the live-stream together, and perhaps challenge other regions to make a gift to Kenyon. Check out this year's highlights.
- Family Friendly Programming: host an event that is fun for all ages and is focused on bringing together Kenyon alumni and their families.
