In order to connect our curriculum to best practices and new developments in storytelling, we propose to invite up to two guest instructors each semester. To maximize contact with students and faculty, we encourage visits of 1-2 weeks in length. The instructors will work with classes using digital storytelling, lead mini-workshops for the campus, and present lectures, as agreed upon prior to the visit.
Expectations: A guest digital storyteller will visit at least one Kenyon course to discuss their work. (The host should name at least one specific course.) They will also offer at least one public event. This may be either a hands-on storytelling workshop or a presentation of their own work. Longer visits with deeper interaction with Kenyon students and faculty will receive priority.Collaborative proposals across departments are encouraged. All grantees will provide a report on their project, to be published on the Center for Innovative Pedagogy website.
The grant will pay reasonable costs for the speaker’s travel, lodging, and honorarium.
The visit must be completed by May 2019.
Deadline: Proposals are due on the last Thursday of every month.
Proposal Format: A full proposal consists of
a 1-paragraph biography of the guest digital storyteller,
a budget for the speaker’s honorarium, travel, and lodging,
and a project narrative of less than 2 pages (1000 words) which describes the class(es) and class activities with which the storyteller will assist, and possible formats for a public talk or workshop (including a proposed timetable).
Submit the grant cover sheet and proposal narrative electronically to Joe Murphy, murphyjm@kenyon.edu.
