Orientation Leaders (OLs) are sophomores, juniors and seniors who are a vital part of the orientation experience. Each new student is put into a group with approximately 20 other new students led by two Orientation Leaders.
The primary function of the OLs is to assist new students by providing them with experience and perspective regarding the advising process, acclimating them to campus, and continuing to be available as a resource throughout the year. The OLs are also expected to serve as strong leaders and positive representatives of the College during orientation, assisting with programs as needed and actively contributing to the orientation process.
OLs are matched with students based on academic and/or personal interests, including information provided on the Personal Data Form section of your New Student Forms. You will receive your OL group information in late July.

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers | Major: Arabic/Asia and Middle East studies | Hometown: Bruceville-Eddy, TX | Involvement on campus: Ballroom Dance Club, Kenyon Collegian, BFEC Volunteer | Best Kenyon memory: The first time Professor Novikoff suggested I apply to Summer Scholars, it was three weeks before the application deadline. I had just been rejected from a really exciting summer program, and I was looking for something to do over the summer, but I knew I couldn't put together a competitive summer scholars application in three weeks. I didn't have a professor to work with, I didn't have an idea for research, I didn't have anything. It couldn't be done. Over the next week, I received //three// emails from Professor Novikoff suggesting I apply. I ignored the first two, but when I received the third, I decided that I might as well try. So I emailed Professor Maldonado-Rivera and asked if he would be willing to put together a proposal with me. I expected him to tell me no, I had waited much too long. He said yes. Of course he would work with me. The next two weeks were a scramble. I remember discussing ideas with Professor Maldonado-Rivera, borrowing books from Professor Novikoff, sending way too many emails to both of them. It was exhausting, but exhilarating. I didn't think it would be possible to put together a decent proposal in such a short period of time, but here I was, doing it! At some point during this madness, I mentioned this project to Dr. Blount, knowing that he would be interested. He asked me to let him see my proposal once it was finished. I emailed him my completed draft the day before the proposal was due. I knew it wasn't perfect, but my brain was too exhausted to make any more improvements. "Let me know if it's coherent," I wrote jokingly. The next day, I checked my email, and Dr. Blount had returned my draft with complete, in-depth comments. Hundreds of suggestions. It must have taken him hours. I was so touched. Reading his comments and thinking about his suggestions made the project feel fresh and new. It gave me the energy I needed to really make my proposal shine. Three professors, each in their own ways, helped me do something that I really thought couldn't be done. Even though I threw it together in just a couple of weeks, I ended up with a great proposal. It was amazing. | Favorite things: Dogs, robots, cetaceans and "The Passion of Christ."

She baked us a delicious pie and poured us coffee in tea cups, and, as we walked around her studio, she told us of projects she was working on as we told her of our own. Throughout the visit, we all recommended new artists for each other to explore and shared stories of our lives outside of class. Even though our relationship formed inside the classroom, it was clear from this day how much Kenyon professors care about their students’ (past and present) experiences and how they want to learn from us just as much as they want to teach. All in all, it’s days like these that I remember why I came to Kenyon in the first place; small community atmospheres render such unique bonds–allowing us to connect and communicate not only as colleagues but also as peers. | Favorite things: Poetry, journaling, watercolors, copious amounts of coffee and tea, analog photography, naps, playing music, toast, nature documentaries, striped clothing.

During the last days of the program my friend Julliette and I decided to go for a run. I didn't know which route we should run, until I had the great idea of running to Whit's Custard. Throughout our time being at Kenyon we had heard about all the rave about Whit's Custard so we wanted to find out for ourselves. I calculated it on Google Maps and it said it was about 6 miles so I asked Julliette if she wanted to and she agreed. So that day we decided that we would run the 6 miles to Whit's Custard and get custard! It ended up being extremely hot and the 6 miles seemed to go on forever, but we made it all the way to Whit's and sat and enjoyed our delicious custard! | Favorite things: I love love love taking pictures of delicious food that I eat and just being able to really appreciate food itself. They were shocked at the sudden arrival of such a large and rowdy crowd and started to break out some upbeat hits.
