STEM coursework
The STEM Scholars join the KEEP Scholars in the intensive summer program before their first year at Kenyon.
STEM Scholars begin the program with a project-based interdisciplinary STEM course, “Introduction to research methods in STEM.” Course modules entail real scientific work in several STEM disciplines: reading primary literature, conducting experiments, and evaluating and analyzing data. Past modules have explored flagellar regeneration in the model alga Chlamydomonas, analyzed omega fatty acid content in foods, and delved into the existence of dark energy. Along with KEEP Scholars, they also take “Writing for the Humanities,” through which they develop a repertoire of critical reading, thinking, and writing skills necessary for making the most out of their Kenyon education.
The STEM summer program will be Sunday, June 28, through Wednesday, August 5.
