- When reviewing the job posting, you can determine the department that is hiring by reviewing the the “Division” in the “About” section. Here, you’ll see a position posted by the Career Development Office.
*The application requirements may vary for each on-campus student employer, but you are required to submit a resume to apply for positions through Handshake. It is a good idea to develop a resume and a cover letter now so that they will be available to be uploaded when you start applying for campus jobs.
**When completing job applications, if you are a federal work-study or Kenyon institutional work-study recipient, please indicate that in your resume, cover letter or other document.
Some important things to remember about the timing of on-campus hiring.
- The greatest number of positions are posted and hired for from the August through September.
- If you know you'd like to work, it's important to apply to multiple positions, to help ensure you get a job. Hiring on campus is competitive, so be prepared by applying early to all positions for which you're qualified.
- The second highest number of hires occurs late spring for the following fall. If you know you plan to work the next year, don't forget to look at postings in Handshake mid-spring.
- If you are a first-year, playing a team sport, going abroad, or are just unsure about whether you can manage a job first semester, but know that you want to work second semester; apply to positions anyway. If you're contacted for an interview you can always let the employer know you're only interested in working second semester. Many employers do their hiring at the beginning of the year and don't open up new positions in the spring. It's best to talk to them about securing a position ahead of time rather than waiting.
