The Kenyon Bed & Breakfast network of alumni and parents provides essential housing support that helps students explore practical application of academic interests as well as pursue professional goals in the world beyond campus. Whether it’s a short-term stay of one to five nights or summer-long housing, these generous offers allow students the opportunity to pursue internships, externships (job shadowing), or interviews in areas where they might not otherwise have accommodations.
Short Homestays - The Kenyon Career Network allows you to offer housing for either up to one week or up to one month. These hosts allow students and young alumni to interview for a job or graduate school or participate in Kenyon’s Job Shadow program. Examples of job shadows made possible by past Bed & Breakfast hosts, include: NASA, Christie’s Auction House, WSP, New York Public Library, and The Columbus Dispatch.
Extended Homestays - Hosts providing "up to 3 months" of housing enables students to complete compelling internships in new cities that otherwise may not have been within financial reach. With internships becoming increasingly important for post-graduate success, extended housing offers give Kenyon students a leg up in the job market that awaits them after graduation.
Hosts select the length of stay they’d like to offer in their Kenyon Career Network profile.
Hosts can sign up by registering with the Kenyon Career Network and selecting the length of stay they are willing to provide in their profile. Hosts may edit their profile anytime or contact the CDO to have it edited on their behalf.
To search possible hosts, log into the Kenyon Career Network and filter your search results by the three housing categories. A list of additional housing resources can be found here: Housing Resources.
Students are expected to reach out to hosts directly. The CDO recommends scheduling a Skype or phone call to explore whether a student is a strong match with a particular host. If so, hosts are free to make an official offer directly to the student.
Still have questions? Hosts or students can contact cdo@kenyon.edu or call 740-427-5165. Students may also schedule an appointment to meet with a CDO staff member.
The Kenyon College Career Development Office (CDO) maintains information to help Kenyon students and alumni connect with individuals and companies that are willing to assist, mentor, or house students who are exploring careers, and with internship and job opportunities that may be available. Students, employers, and volunteers should be aware that the CDO does not vet or conduct background checks on the students that may seek assistance, employers that may be offering opportunities, or volunteers who may be providing support. Employers, students, mentors, and hosts are highly encouraged to meet via a phone or Skype call prior to confirming any arrangements to determine suitability of fit and discuss mutual expectations. While the CDO is not responsible for what happens in arrangements that come from its networks, it is happy to assist students, employers, and volunteers with conflict resolution and resources should difficulties occur.
