At Kenyon, we’re committed to developing the habits of mind needed in today’s world and that undergird truly rigorous thinking. We do this through an unabashed commitment to the liberal arts.
From the beginning of a Kenyon education, students are introduced to the demands of multidisciplinary materials and they are encouraged to find meaningful connections. Undergraduates are expected to interrogate data, research concepts, and draw thoughtful conclusions with analytical reasoning. By arguing their perspectives, and respectfully listening to counterpoints, students are asked to contemplate ethical implications to societal quandaries within cultural, political, social, religious, and economic contexts. What’s more, Kenyon emphasizes writing, regardless of major. After all, powerful writers must first be powerful thinkers.

Nothing gets students more excited about an organization than seeing the company in action. Kenyon arranges group site visits in different cities around the US over Spring Break each March. These are opportunities for students to visit top businesses and hear about potential careers from company leaders and young associates, providing valuable insight into different fields. Companies also can share about job and internship opportunities, and receive a résumé book of attendees. Please let us know if you’d like us to visit your organization.
Before students pick an internship for a summer, they often want to get a better sense of the organization’s work or of the industry more broadly. One-to-five day externships are a great way for students to experience your organization and consider future opportunities with your company. There is no cost to you, and great mini-experiences mean students start to share word-of-mouth endorsements of your company with their peers. Learn more about becoming a Job Shadow Program sponsor.
Recent studies have shown that more than 60% of employers report intern-to-permanent hiring practices and that internship experience is the most important résumé credential for landing a job after graduation. It’s no wonder employers and students are both more focused than ever on this important learning-by-doing model. However, not all internships are created equal, and in an increasingly competitive landscape for top talent, employers that establish powerful internship experiences, are likely to have a better chance of converting interns to full-time employees. Consider these suggestions when developing a transformative internship at your organization.
