Anneke Mason ('10) joined the Career Development Office staff in June 2015. A Kenyon alumna, she is thrilled to be working with students on a campus she knows and loves.
Anneke’s specialty within the CDO is employer development. She cultivates and maintains relationships with employers nationwide, advocating for the passion, talent, and value of Kenyon students and alumni. She works to ensure that available opportunities reflect the diversity of interests of Kenyon students, and that employer partners value the competencies and mindsets cultivated through a Kenyon education—perspective, rigorous thinking and problem solving, among other attributes. She also coordinates on-campus recruitment, which enables students to learn about and interview for jobs and internships without leaving the hill.
Helping students tell their story is Anneke’s favorite part of her position—she works closely with students to identify and highlight transferable skills and mindsets, and demonstrate the contributions they can make to a particular position. Through her relationships with recruiters, Anneke has found that more than specific courses or experiences, employers are looking for driven, sharp, and coachable candidates, good problem solvers who are able to bring their skills and knowledge to bear on a wide variety of problems. Because of this, Anneke continually pushes students to take on a challenge or consider an opportunity that is outside of their direct experience.
Anneke is also a firm believer that now is always the right time to make your next appointment, be it your first or your fifth. It is never too early or too late to engage in conversation around work-engaged learning and how your academic and professional paths coincide. You just need to be willing to sit down and talk about your interests and passions. She’s excited to meet you.
