“Meet the World in Knox County” currently offers several programs. All programs are flexible and subject to changes and adaptations in accordance with class needs and teacher preferences. If what we offer do not match your needs, we strongly encourage you to contact us. We are open to different ideas and are willing to design a new program within our ability to satisfy your needs and preferences. Below are example programs that we have offered previously:
We will work closely with the teacher in deciding which country to virtually visit. Next, we will bring international students from that specific country or region to a Knox County classroom. During any given session, a student speaker will give demographic, religious, cultural, social, economic or environmental information about his/her respective country. The session will be primarily interactive presentations consisting of images, videos, games and discussions. At the end of the program, we will provide every participating student with a “World Traveler Certificate” indicating the name of the country that the students virtually visit.
This program is primarily designed for higher grade levels and it will give students a valuable opportunity to listen to international students at Kenyon College talking about major world religions. Some of the world religions that our international students represent include Christianity, Confucianism, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism. The format of the informational sessions can be very flexible, for example: the first half of the session will be a lecture format and the second part will be an active student discussion format. Students of the classroom will be encouraged to ask questions and find out more about the religions represented.
This program is designed primarily for lower grade levels. It involves student speakers talking about holidays in their homelands and how they celebrate these unique holidays. They will talk about topics such as: What kind of food and drinks do people prepare for the holiday? Do people celebrate Christmas? What kind of festive clothes do people wear? Are there any traditional games that people play? After this a discussion is developed, where students are able to comment, contribute, and ask questions.
