The Off-Campus Activities Program in Psychology (OAPP) was established by the Kenyon College Department of Psychology in 1974 to exist as a liaison between Kenyon students and the Knox County community of social services.
The program offers students a chance to volunteer and become directly involved in the community in which they live. The program's aims are to facilitate the integration of students' academic interests or career possibilities with the work of the agencies through observation, small-scale research projects, and volunteer work.
OAPP serves the campus as the point of contact for various local groups. Local groups that wish to attain college student volunteers for the organization can come to OAPP and have them search their records for people who might be interested. The OAPP office has worked with various groups including, but not limited to: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, New Directions Women's Shelter, Head Start, The Developmental Center and various other groups in and around the community. OAPP also organizes the Knox County Mentor Program with students from Knox County Elementary Schools.
If you would like to get involved with the community get in contact with OAPP and schedule and appointment to go over your various opportunities in the community.
Students need not be psychology majors, nor be enrolled in a psychology class in order to participate in OAPP. A volunteer experience can supplement and enhance any course of study.
