Many students study for a semester or year at Russian universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar or Voronezh.
In addition to language courses, the Russian program offers courses on Russian literature and culture taught in English.
The Russian program at Kenyon is small, but over the years, it has attracted many outstanding students whose interest in Russian language and culture later determined their choice of graduate schools and future careers.
Former students have been awarded prestigious scholarships and admitted to graduate programs in Slavic studies at Princeton and Oxford. They have worked in the American Embassy in Moscow and for numerous government offices in Washington, D.C.
In addition to five semesters of language courses, supplemented by independent studies, our program offers an Introduction to Russian Literature course and several courses on Russian culture taught in English (Russian Culture Through Cinema, Survey of Russian Literature, Russian 20th Century Literature). Most of these courses are taught by Associate Professor Natalia Olshanskaya, although since 2001, one course per semester has been taught by a Teaching Fellow/guest professor from a leading Russian University: Nizhnii Novgorod, Odessa, St. Petersburg.
Many of our students study for one or both semesters of their junior year in Russian universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, and Voronezh.
