Advice for first-year students:
First-year students are encouraged to begin their coursework by taking a first-year literature course. The recommended course for incoming students is CWL 120: "What in the World is World Literature?" Students may, instead, enroll in particular sections of ENGL 103 that are cross-listed with CWL or MLL 100- or 200-level courses (in translation) or CLAS 130 or CLAS 225.
Note: Since CWL 120 or its equivalent is considered a core course, students who begin the concentration after their first year at Kenyon, and who have not taken an introductory core course, should first meet with the CWL Director to discuss alternative options for their course of study. In these cases, students may petition to use a different section of ENGL 103, another MLL course, or another CLAS course by also providing a rationale for how this course aligns with the study of World Literature.
