The project A Look at the Book: Text and Reading Culture from Manuscripts to Print to E-Readers was displayed in the Meier/Draudt classroom in fall 2011.
It explored the technologies and changes in reading and writing from the Middle Ages to the present, including parchment, quill and ink, monastic scribes who created a system of punctuation, laypeople who doodled pointing fingers in blank spaces, and how wordy amulets warded off evil. It was curated by students in ARHS 374 Used Books: Medieval Manuscripts and Incunabula with Professor Blick.
