Lina Khalid: Photo Diaries
November 1-16, 2018
Photo Diaries is a survey of documentary photography by the young Palestinian-Jordanian Photographer, Lina Khalid. It is a humanizing story of courage and compassion in two places: the refugee champs and streets of protests. Poised for change and averse to complacency, the subjects of each photo expressively tell their stories outside a Western-dominated paradigm.
Khalid started her career interested in photo-journalism, after earning a BA in journalism and media in Jordan, she was inspired by the way in which photo documentation could educate the general public. Jordan, a country facing population pressures from a high number of refugees and asylum seekers, is home to a diverse identity that permeates its political borders and presents unique political and economic challenges.
Khalid's duel Palestinian-Jordanian identify attunes her lens to those affected by displacement and encapsulates their determination and solidarity. The series, coupled with commentary by the artist, presents an alternative narrative. A story that Khalid hopes you can engage with and pass on.
