In preparation for the West Quad construction project, the College has developed an interim parking plan that will take effect in June 2018. The plan includes the construction of an additional south parking lot for students next to the outdoor tennis courts. The additional student parking will allow the College to designate the Peirce lot as well as the parking areas near Lewis, Norton and the northwest side of Bexley for employees during the West Quad construction (see map).
Parking Plan Details
Employees
- 118 spaces in the lot just south of Peirce Hall will become faculty and staff parking to replace spaces in the lot behind Olin and Chalmers.
- 25 spaces in the lot on the west side of McBride Field will be available for faculty and staff on weekdays. The spaces will continue to be reserved for athletic events on the weekends.
- 26 spaces in the two lots along Ward Street behind Lewis Hall and Norton Hall will become faculty and staff parking.
Students
- 145 new spaces next to the outdoor tennis courts will be designated for students. Knox Area Transit shuttles will add the new parking area to the circuit they make from 8 am to 4 pm. That 30-minute loop goes from the Kenyon Bookstore to the Gambier Apartments to the Wright Center in Mount Vernon.
Visitors
- Several existing parking spaces on College Park Street between Peirce and Ransom halls will be marked for handicapped access for visitors.
The Olin and Chalmers parking lot will close in June 2018 as library materials are moved to the storage building under construction on the east edge of the athletic facilities. The libraries will be demolished in the fall of 2018. Construction of the new Kenyon library on the same location will take about two years, and the construction of the 268-space parking garage underneath the new West Quad is expected to be completed in 2021.
